Have you read this book?
I’d heard about this book a long time ago and wasn’t particularly compelled to run and read it. I think it was for a few reasons including the fact that there were so many books that were out about happiness and I’d already read a couple.
Well, I finally picked it up over New Year, and well, I did enjoy it. I won’t g too heavily into the critique of it, as there were some bits that didn’t appeal to me, but the basic premise is something I liked. Look at what makes you happy, do more of it and reflect on it to see how it makes you feel? Will you incorporate any changes longer term? What worked, what didn’t work?
I have to say that one of the most significant messages for me was that the author decided that for one month she intended on ‘being Gretchen’…meaning that instead of always trying to be something she isn’t; pretending to like things she didn’t really like, pretending to be something she didn’t feel she was or wanted to be, that she was going to just embrace that she could just, be herself. How simple, yet how liberating!
I’d love to know what you think about this book if you’ve read it and also if you’ve taken on any happiness projects of your own?
Also, if you’d like to see a little more of Gretchen, I’ve included a link to some snippets from her Oprah interview below.
Enjoy…till next week!
